Francesco Pennisi Quasi Cantabile (1991) - Preludietto per pianoforte Written for Daniele Lombardi in September, it is a very short musical page to be added to my few and short compositions for solo piano. The "cantabile" present in the title makes its appearance here and there in the piece, creating ideal links with Canzone da sonare of 1984; a cautious, uncertain, fragile "cantabilità", perhaps to be ascribed to the fossile world. (F.P.)
Pietro Grossi Suona Daniele ( 1991 ) was first performed in 1991 at the Pecci Museum in Prato, during the presentation of Homebook, the experience of computer variable publishing.A series of graphics, different in every copy, precedes the exhortation; this is an invitation for the friend Daniele Lombardi to draw inspiration to improvise at the Piano. (P.G.)
Giuseppe Chiari m_96 - In this piece I apply my game ofINTERVALLI (see Trattato di musica. Napoli, 1990) which is structured in the form of intervals and not of notes. The piece can be performed at any speed but it does not stand doubling of octaves or any ornamental sound. (G.C.)
Giancarlo Cardini Canti Segreti Sonata n. 2 ( 1989) The gait is slow, uniform, almost always isochronous: wide plains as far as the eye can see. Chords in parallel movements, insistently repeated, so as to favour, through the use of long pedals, the formation of precise harmonic ambiences. Affective and nostalgic. And coloured by some tone device (three prepared notes which successively merge with the others). The title alludes both to the expressive climate, and to the micromelodies to be found within the prolongued chord sequences. (G.C.)
Vittorio Montis Seitengesang (1988) The piece is articulated into structures which define and stress acoustic phenomena such as resonances, sympathy vibrations or the sound reverberations at times evident, at other times veiled and almost forcedly obtained through the use of pedals. The flowing of the discourse defines a hidden, inner "cantabilita". which yet arises spontaneously, because it is the very nature of the instrument itself which suggests it. (V.M.)
